This is what always happens eventually. Unless you are able and have the
chance to solder under a microscope, what you could do is try to get a
SER-001, a small board that David Humphreys made and sold. They
are sold out currently, but maybe a list member will sell one. This board
fits into the Newton without soldering and provides a connector like those the
old Newton models have.
Personally, I wouldn't try soldering it even if you do have the knowledge and
the equipment. Others have done this and have reported that it didn't last
very long.
I could replace the main logic board with one of a 2100. If you are interested,
let me know.
