I'm glad to be corrected. :-)
From working in a music store (Sheet music), I was under the impression
that novels and the like were bound by the same rules as music books,
which is obviously not the case.
Reproductions are allowed of sheet music, for personal use (something
we try to convince teachers of... they keep copying anyways).
The bigger problem is music with lyrics, because the lyrics and the
music are not covered under the same copyright rules. The Lyrics can't
be copied at all... but the music can.
We actually had one person come in and start copying some Bach by hand
into a book of staff paper... Since the Bach is Public domain now, it
was legal.. we didn;t have to let him stay in the store though.
