[NTLK] Strange tales of eMate behavior

Sorry for the long post, but I've had it up to here with this darn
thing...

Strange tale #1
I was sitting in English class today, and turned on my trusty eMate to
start taking notes (In a NewtonWorks Paper) only to discover that
somehow 26 pages of "nothing" had been tacked on to the end of my notes
from two days ago. But the fun didn't stop there! I went to delete it,
thinking it was just a buch of returns, or a multitude of spaces, but
although I could position the carat at any point on the left side of the
screen, pressing delete or the arrow keys did nothing! It blinked, as if
it was trying to relocate it to the next betwixt-character position, but
without movement. If I hold down delete, it blinks in place for a while
and eventually goes up a line. What seems to be the case is that each
line is filled with a quantity of characters that have a horizontal
dimension of zero pixels. Odd, isn't it?

Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know what causes it or how
to prevent it? I never had this happen on my 2000.

Perhaps my eMate has become self-aware and is silently speaking to me...

Onward to Strange Tale #2
Later on in the same class (after typing my notes on page 27... sigh!)
the class turned to discussion, so I turned it off to save the battery.
And, as I tend to do, absentmindedly pressed keys on the keyboard.
Whilst doing this, one depression of keys caused it to turn on. At first
I thought I had discovered some sort of oddball keyboard shortcut. But I
was holding down 8 keys simultaneously, and all of them letters.

Our third and final tale for this evening:
We have been talking recently about how the eMate rejects some types of
linear flash cards, but I never expected it to refuse an
Apple-Newton-branded 2MB Flash Storage card. The card works flawlessly
in my 2100 and OMP/1.11, But put it into the eMate and:
"Writing to this type of card is unsupported. This card will be mounted
read-only."

My eMate has had 3 very careful owners, and has only been opened once to
put washers on the hinges. (Actually, one of the hinges just snapped.
Wow. Thanks Joel and Frank. At least the screen still works!)

How can I save my poor eMate???

TIA.
