[NTLK] Wireless Network

For all those that use wireless PC Cards, I have discovered two new
solutions. The first is a new addition to the list of wireless PC Cards
that work with the Newton 2xxx or eMate. The name of Card is the USR 2410
by US Robotics. This card is reported as a "PC" only card as there no Mac
drivers for Mae OS 8 or 9 but there maybe one for Mac OS X. Anyway because
this card uses the Prism 2 Chipset it comes up as a USR 022410 when
inserted into the Newton.

The second and best thing I discovered is 1hat if you are lucky enough to
have more than one wirless PC card and a laptop that can use one of these
cards. You can connect your Newton to your Powebook without using a Airport
router or any other wirless router via NCU.

This is my setup:
PB 3400 using Mac OS 8.6

TCP/IP control panel = Connect via: "name of card"
Configure: Using DHCP Server

Leave the rest of boxes blank as they do not require in data for this
setup. I use a Wavelan Silver wireless card in my PB and the Wavelan
control panel set to "ad-hoc demo" and no other information added to any of
the boxes in the control panel. On the Newtion side I used the wireless
card mention above as well as another Waveland Bronze wireless pc card. On
the Newton open the Wavelan setup window in the wonder app (LucentWavelan)
by Hiroshi Noguchi and select the following:

Mode = ad-hoc (old -fashioned) DO NOT USE "ad-hoc" only

Channel = 3

Leave the rest of the selections blank and close the window.

Now all you have to do is startup NCU on your PB (assuming that you have
installed the wireless correctly) and make sure that NCU is ready to
connect via Appletalk. If you have not been able to use your wireless card
to connect to an ISP you need to resolve this problem first before trying
this solution. I hope this helps those of us that do not have access toa
Airport router.

BTW I was able to backup and install Newton packages on my Newton using
this method.
