A sniffer's job is to snag and decode the actual network traffic for
analysis vs. just autodetecting the available networks. You can do bandwidth
analysis, examine the actual data payload, save a session for later
digestion (or, for fun, replay) etc. with a sniffer (depending on the
features, of course).
A Newton-based sniffer would be uber-groovy, I must say.
