There are other ways to figure out what program a file belongs to.
First, you can open the extras folder and switch from icon view to list
view. You do that by tapping the circle that's between the two arrows
on that Icon bar at the bottom of your screen on the left. In list
view, you can see all the system files are in ROM and say "built-in".
You can't erase those even if you try. You can get more info about a
particular packgage on your Newton by checking the box beside the
package name and tapping the little envelope icon on the bottom right
(next to the x). One of your options on the pop-up menu that will
appear when you tap the envelope is i - package info. Tap that and it
will tell you more about the package that may help you decide what
program a particular icon went with. Utilities can help even more. I
use a utility called SAI prefs Cleaner to clean up preferences on the
Newton that no longer match to installed programs. SBM Utilities proves
additional file management utilities too. I apologize if you already
know all this stuff, but I wanted to point out there are multiple ways
to "clean up" your Newton.
