You are correct. It fit right in there, so at least I was able to re-assemble my Newton.

I was afraid of that. As I'm out of town right now, I will use the time until my return to muster up all the courage I have, and then have another go at it.

As for replacing it with a din connector, or a SER-001, the only thing I use the interconnect port for is to load packages and make backups, and my serial cable is one of those that connects directly to the interconnect port (without using a dongle). However, I may spring for a SER-001 anyway, when and if a new batch becomes available. It never hurts to have too many ports.
