You shouldn't be missing anything, unless the system software was
tampered with before....

The ethernet should work with either crossover or straight through on
the tibook...

Maybe a different cable?

I'm reaching.

You can go to the terminal and type

ifconfig -a

which should show you all the info on you ethernet (en0)

Also your date is set to 1969.
