Freeze Utilities of Standalone is probably the most elegant one
(interface/keeps your icons etc.)

Benefits: more heap (same as ram in a desktop) means more apps open at
the same time and less crashes (especially if you on the internet,
NEwton Internet Enabler likes heap)
Drawback: you frozen apps open a bit slower, no problem on a 2x00
though...
