I use the slash character "/" with letters for various punctuation and other
non-text items:

/r for return
/t for tab
/p for a period
/c for comma
/co for a colon
/sc for a semicolon
W/ is "with"

I may have made a couple more, but I must not use them because I don't
remember them. :-)

I think the key is to be consistent in whatever system you create for
yourself. That helps with your memory. :-)
