You are on a Mac?
What system?
Are you sure you have the proper extensions for NCU (that come with NCU) in
your extensions folder?
You do not need to delete your old backup files, just move them to another
location than that used from NCU to store the backup files.
It might also be the case that you have corrupt data on your Newt.
Have you tried to perform a backup onto your memory card?
