This piece of advice from Peter Nixon worked for me:
"If you require a serial dongle for the Newton, you can still get them from
an Apple Authorised Repair provider (they are a service part). They are $25
($34 CDN). Part no. 922-2971, cable adapter to DIN 9."
I got mine this week with a one day turnaround.
