I have to agree with Norman - I've never had to go into Directory Access to turn on AppleTalk under 10.3 on any of my machines (Dual G4, Pismo, iBook SE) - setting this up under Network Preferences was all I needed. The only time I've even used Directory Access was to set the Active Directory parameters for the network here at the office.
