Jim, I've had this same thing happen on occasion with the not-new but
generally OK battery in my eMate. It usually happens if I've let the
battery run down a lot by leaving the unit unplugged for several weeks. For
some reason the eMate's charging logic thinks the battery is toast, but it
isn't.

IIRC, I think I worked around it by unplugging the charger (from the eMate,
not from the wall) and re-plugging it about 30 seconds later, repeating this
several times until eventually the screen says "charging". (I'm not sure
about the 30 seconds part; my memory is vague on that, but it probably isn't
too crucial.) Once it says "charging", just leave it plugged in and
eventually you'll get the green light and all will be well.
