More likely, they didn't want to upset a nice deal where one vendor
sells pears, and one sells grapes. As soon as someone sets up a "fruit"
stand, someone stands to actually lose market share. PDAs have been
a static set of vendors for a really long time, and I don't think Palm
or Compaq have been looking forward to the idea of Nokia and Motorola
selling fruit too.
