First of all, Rendezvous is nothing more than Apple's trademark for
ZeroConf.

As for whether ZeroConf works like Samba... that is not the case and is
probably only a relevant question if you are referring to the portions of
samba which provide directory services.

In short (and I may be oversimplifying), ZeroConf is supposed to provide
four core capabilities:

        - Assign IP addresses dynamically without DHCP
        - Map names to IP addresses without DNS
        - Provide service location without a directory server
        - Assign multicast addresses without a server
