NuShield was almost hit with a similar scam. This is usually being
perpetrated by Nigerians. We were sent (without asking) a cashier's check
to use for a purchase to Nigeria. The bank fortunately noticed that it
was filled out wrong or we would have been out thousands if we went ahead
with it. The check was also fraudulent. They sent it a second time and
this time we checked first. The check was beautifully done, also fake.
Note that cashier's checks are no different from regular ones. They must
clear before they can be considered good. Never accept a transaction that
requires a "refund" of money from one party to another. All such third
party transactions must be viewed with great suspicion.
