I assume he means the metal-bodied stylus for the MP100. As I understand it,
the MP100 came with 1 (two?) plastic stylus. If you registered it, though,
or did something similar, Apple would send you a metal stylus.

The "carpenter's pencil" part refers to the shape of the MP100 stylus which
is flat (oval cross section) rather than round.
