Subject: [NTLK] OT: Mac OS X beta solicitation (and Newton software
discounts from Five Speed for NewtonTalk members)
NOTE: This message is totally off-topic for this list, so as a token of
apology, I have appended a special deal for NewtonTalk list members on
our Newton software: get $12 off when you buy both Dash Board and Wake
Up Call for Newton. See the end of this message for details!
---------
Hello all,
I've been busy and so pretty much absent on on this list for a while
(like 3 years!), although I still read it when I can, so it's likely
most of you no longer have a clue who I am. Briefly: I headed the
Newton development group at Five Speed in the 1990s, where I was the
principal developer of Dash Board. (If you haven't seen Dash Board,
check it out at: http://www.fivespeed.com/dashboard/ )
Anyway, my company (Five Speed) hasn't done any consumer software since
the old Newton days, so I haven't been out in public too much since
then. ;-) But, I've been working on a secret project for Mac OS X, and
it is almost ready to see daylight. So, I am here to troll for Mac OS X
users willing to join the beta test group in a week or two.
Why here? Well, this forum probably is home to 90% of the people in the
world who still recognize the Five Speed brand name, and also I thought
it would be cool to get a few members of my old test group to see the
new stuff we've been working on. Or just current Dash Board/Wake Up
Call users in general; I know from the (small) royalty checks that I
still get every month that some of you are still buying these products
(thanks!!).
Anyway, I am not allowed to say too much about the new Mac OS X product
yet, other than:
- it's a network/Internet file transfer tool
- it requires Mac OS X 10.3
- it's all the way 100% Mac OS X native and Mac only, and has cool
Mac features
- the beta program will require a nondisclosure agreement (the
electronic no-hassle kind)
For those of you willing to try it out based on that scant information,
send email mentioning my name (Mason) and that you want to join the
test program, to: akari-beta_at_fivespeed.com
Also, feel free to email me personally with any questions; you can
reach me at account mason at the domain name of fivespeed dot com.
-----------
Thanks for reading, and to those who don't care, sorry for the spam!
Now for the details of our NewtonTalk discount offer: I wasn't able to
have Five Speed's purchasing process streamlined to do my little sale.
(Our order site is *so* 1990s--sorry about that!).
Anyway, here is the offer:
Buy Dash Board ($25.00), between now and May 15, 2004, and get a FREE
copy of Wake Up Call (a $12.00 value). For more info about these
products, see: http://www.fivespeed.com
How to claim it:
Order only Dash Board (not Wake Up Call), and add the word "NewtonTalk"
to your comments in the Comments field on the order form. There is no
box to click on the order form, but I will make sure every order that
mentions NewtonTalk will get the free Wake Up Call registration code.
Thanks again, and I hope to see some of you in our upcoming beta
program.
Very best regards,
