Paul,

That's a great idea for getting a signature!! Although I've never been
into getting "famous" people's autograph, it's a "bitch'en" idea for
those who are into that!! Another great use for the Newton that,
frankly, I've never seen discussed or heard about! Just think, if we
see more and more people asking for celeb's autographs on their Newtons
on TV!
Keep it Green peeps!

You know, I was at a Star Trek convention in Oklahoma around 2001 or
so. I had my Newton there which I believed to be just like in the
sci-fi shows... electronic tablet for signing on, etc etc. I was really
happy about it, and I even paid them, as we do in these conventions for
the signature. Got Erin Gray (Wilma Dering, Buck Rogers), the guy who
played the Gorn in Star Trek, Chase Masterson from Deep Space Nine, and
a few other people. I was doing great.
It was when I approached the actor that played the Klingon Gow'ron
that I had him say "Nope! Don't do those. Too many people have run
into problems with identity theft doing that. Will sign about anything
but that."

I felt really bad, and still do to have a actor imply that I would
do that, or that he felt I would threaten him. Well, these days I would
care less, since I know their bread and butter is the signatures and
conventions along side of the actual acting. But back then I was real
sheepish to approach and bother them to begin with, since I looked at
them as regular human beings who I loved that didn't know me from Kirk.

Since then, my Newton is only used to check show times at the
conventions. I buy the pictures and get signatures. Much better resale
value later. :) Hard to sell digital images on a screen... unless I
sell a bunch of old Newtons with password locked notes that have
signatures on them. Hmmmm....

Oh well, so much for the PADD (The Star Trek term for the PDA like
device that the Newton was inspired by) idea getting around this century
for signatures.
