Yes. Here's how to read 3Com model numbers:
3CCE589ET
Char 1-2: 3Com
Char 3: C = cable, X = XJack
Char 4: E = ethernet
Char 5-7: main model number of card (chipset model number)
Char 8: Revision letter of card (A, B, C, D, E, etc)
Char 9: T = twisted-pair cable
So any 3C_E589__ type card is OK with the Newton.
