All good ideas except I would not bother to jam the switch on. I would
think this would be hard on the switch. So just leave it without power
for a few hours at least to a max of 24 (if it still does not power on a
couple of hours)should do the same thing.

Another thing to try is to plug in the adapter and press and hold the
power switch then press the reset button. Then you should get a screen
saying "do you want to erase all information?" Release the switch and
tap no. Often this will get a cranky Newt to wake up.

BTW-you should remove all cards before doing a reset via the reset
switch. Most say that having cards installed and doing a plain reset
(reboot) of the Newt is ok. But a few have encountered problems with
some cards like Pretec (and even Pretec's site says don't reset with
cards installed). Regardless never have a card installed when you
brainwipe (erase all data via the message above) a Newt. Even Apple
said not to do that.
