It was an airport only card socket. Supposedly not PCMCIA, but
obviously very very close.
In the powermac G4, the built in "airport" socket was used to upgrade
Lucent PCMCIA cards.
Obviously Apple used PCMCIA technology, and might have modified or
omitted some small portion of the standard (probably in the card).
