Hello Mark,
GB would not be a good app yo use for what you are suggesting. GB does
have very big memory and CPU overheads, you need a simple app like
Audiocorder (http://www.blackcatsystems.com/software/audiocorder.html)
or, Sound Studio, there are lots of great simple sound recording apps
out there for the Mac, the Apple site has a lot of info and links for
Audio apps. (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/).
GB is very good, but would be overkill for what you are talking about,
the best thing about Audiocorder, is you decide how much or little you
want to pay for the app, now how cool is that.
As for file formats I would record voice at 11,025 Hertz at 16 bits.
Then drag this file into iTunes or whatever you use to burn CD's and it
will be converted for you into a format appropriate for normal audio
CD's. The default place for new recordings is in the Audiocorder
application folder.
Hope this is helpful
Kindest regards
