OK. This supports my theory (that Mail V has problems with either large numbers of IMAP mailboxes and/or a relatively complicated IMAP mbox/container hierarchy). Doesn't prove it, but it supports
it.

You have an extremely simple IMAP hierarchy. Only four mailboxes
and (in all likelihood) none of these is both a container (folder) and a mailbox. I have lots of folders and lots of levels of hierarchy on .mac. I'm tempted to trash it all to test my theory once and for all.

But maybe somebody else will chip in first with some evidence that kills my theory stone dead.

But with such a simple mbox hierarchy, I'm guessing that your "rules" don't move messages around on the server (i.e. from one IMAP mailbox to another) ?

This is sort of true, but the real picture is a lot more complicated than this suggests.
