I'm going to modify the springs in my eMate slightly, to make a groove in it
that will look something like this:

The groove (probably ground down with a Dremel tool) will allow the screw to
tighten down into the body of the spring slightly to secure it so it can't
walk or be pulled forward.

This mod makes more sense and seems to be a more long-term fix than the washer
option. Even with the application of the washer, the spring can still be
released. I don't think the groove configuration (groovy?) will allow the
spring to move.

I'll still clean the hinge and use some grease.
