Not sure about OS 7.6, but my old (now my daughter's) PB5300ce works
fine
with OS 9.2, the Orinoco driver (www.orinocowireless.com) and an Orinoco
Silver card. Yes, it's slow, but sufficient for email.
You should be able to get a card via Ebay, and the driver is a free
download.
So what's the catch? According to the readme the driver requires at
least OS 8.6. You probably won't get around an OS update.... :(
