Laurent, your statement forgets that there is always a company that can
pay more so there is always a reason for a good person to leave. If you
want to retain your talent you can't always afford to pay more than
anyone else because of the first premise I cite, that being the case
you must find other ways to reduce the loss of talent. When Jobs
returned Apple was losing people left and right. Less head hunters
calling means less people leaving, means more talent remains, and
better products are put out.
Feel free to give me an example of a company that can afford to pay all
of its employees what they are due for their talent. Fact is, market
sets the price and well, that takes us back to my first premise.
