[NTLK] How many Newtons?

Hi,

I'm new to this list so if this is answered somewhere, please point me
in the right direction. My question is this: How many Newton did Apple
produce and is there any estimate of how many are still in service? I'm
not doing any market size survey--I'm just curious. I essentially gave
up on the Newton 10 years ago (except to play solitaire) and now I'm
finding that there is a very vibrant Newton community and a device that
fits very nicely into the "modern" world even if one hasn't been
produced in 7 years or so. TIA,

oz

PS

Is there any way to repair scratches in a Newt (MP100) screen?
