I got a used, abandoned Wallstreet last year that needed reconstruction -- got a new heatsink, case screws, and power supply from a Powerbook parts dealer, got a 7200rpm 20gb Travelstar from zipzoomfly.com (was googlegear.com at the time). Big difference. When I first checked into laptop hd's, I was shocked to see that most ship with 4200rpm drives, and 5400 is a extra-$$ option! That explained to me why a laptop with the same processor is usually a dog compared to the same speed desktop.
The extra $$ for the 7200rpm Travelstar is well worth it.

If you want some extra zip in your iBook put one of the 7200 RPM drives
in it.
Memory Express in Calgary (http://memoryexpress.com/) carries the
Hitachi TravelStar's (IBM's drives) and they are snappy compared to
typical 5400 RPM drives.
They're about $100 more than a comparably sized 5400 RPM drive but I
think it's worth it.
