i have found a wonderful bag, however it was pricey - ~$200 CDN made by
a canadian company called DAL or Derek Alexander. The bag, made of
black leather, has lasted me over three years of daily use (and
abuse). It has a main compartment for the newt, many zippered
compartments within - good for cards, receipts, photos, etc., the back
section is zippered on three sides (two zips), within in a spot for
your cell phone, credit cards , cash and a pen (or sylus). It measures
9"x6"x2.5". I have found many bags such as this in leather shops that
are most often run by people who have come from europe or the middle
east.
Of course (an i understand it) the tradition of wearing one comes from
the Islamic tradition of always having ones holy books at the ready
whenever there is a chance to read or study.

i'll try to get some pics if anyone is interested.
