Er...

Well, I kinda hate to have to speak up here, but I'd just like
to say ... does anyone intend on helping me with my actual question? I
haven't had any need for 'slowdown', but simply keep getting -28009 with
Escale, on OSX using Ethernet to manage packages. I did a clean reset
on the Newton and moved a few things back over from a flash card I got
with it, and am seeing much improvement in using serial to my PC (in
fact, it's almost flawless) but I'd really like to know what people do
to make them more stable than I seem to be getting.

What are the first steps someone should take with a blank-wiped
Newton and in which order to make it as stable and usable as possible?
What apps should I install or avoid?

Subject: [NTLK] So where to (re)start?

I've been on the list on and off a few times now, and picked up a Newton
almost a couple years ago now. I have a 2100 with a pretty decent
battery, all the connection cables, etc, but one glaring problem. I
have seriously unstable syncing. I either get hangs and freezes using
serial to my PC which makes me need a restart to free up the com port,
or Error -28009 working with Escale on my Powerbook. I would definitely
like to have Escale working, vastly preferred to working more stability
into the NCU for Windows. What patches, and in what order, do I need to
do things here in order to get anything stable going? Sorting through
the list and reading UNNA's archive list just isn't seeming to give me
the full picture of what I need.

Is there any link to a sort of "Basic Updating" list for new Newton
owners, any kind of 10 step install guide that could act as a
replacement for any kind of "official" quick install?
