That's great, William.

Let me put it this way: Obviously you know how to use a mail application.
Perhaps you even know how to use text editors (like, Microsoft Word, you
know). Then you could easily make books and give something back and be
entertaining yourself. It has been shown that using Newton Press, you can
create a book a day for 12 days in a row. And if you graduate from Newton
Press High and sign up for Bookmaker College with Dean Digital Dan and
Coach Woody, you can even crank up the volume (and features).
Or the Wiki - heck, you don't even need to install any software or know
much about anything. Just grab some stuff that was news to you (e.g.
describtion of a application, some howto-tips) and put it up on the Wiki.
That's actually pretty much a no brainer and will help knowhow to be not
forgotten. There's just too much cool stuff coming up here that sinks into
oblivion (and the search option just simply doesn't cut it for some
questions). You could even trail NTLK for interesting bits of knowledge and
copy them over to the Wiki with a link to NTLK and credit to the original
poster. And again Newtonia will have become a better place!
Whenever you have a question and wonder how to do something, that's
exactly something somebody else is going to wonder about. You realise
there's quite a bunch of cool coders and programmers about, right? Well,
they need and want to code, not write documentation or give too much
time-intense one-on-one support for really basic stuff (that and some abuse
obviously killed an excellent project recently). So once you solve a
problem on your own or with their or NTLK's help, go productive and give
something valuable back by writing a howto -- and put it up on the Wiki!
That helps the newbies *and* developers by documenting questions/Problems
and adequate solutions. Or maybe you would like some special hard- or
software hack? Well, the Wiki has wishlists, maybe dumping your idea there
will inspire somebody to tackle it.
The Wiki. A good place that needs your support. You'll find it's
adress below this post.
Or you check UNNA and compare which software you have that isn't uploaded
yet. Well, upload it, then! Same goes for any Newton app you come across on
the web by chance.
Also Unna needs help with short software reviews. Install stuff, test
it, write a short review. That's one very valuable help to make a very good
thing still even better!
These are all things *ANY* Newtonian can do, no matter how long with it and
how experienced or not. That's stuff even bloody newbs like myself can do.
There's nothing to it. And none of it needs any mouthing off at NTLK, if
you are averse to that.
So, go ahead and do something. Once a week. Once a month. Even once a
quarter would be cool. Just don't hang out and say you're unable to
contribute. You can, too! You've got what it takes. Anybody could do any of
these things and help the community. And don't think these small things
wouldn't be appreciated.
***This call goes out to all the newbs, lurkers and passive surface
skimmers. Get yer ass up and some productive contribution going! ***
Cheers,
DJV. (off to work on his folding boat, got another couple days trip coming up)
