The question is rather: how to tell MacOS X to turn AppleTalk on when
one doesn't have a router.
Plug your Newton. Open Dock and choose "Other computer". This will
turn the Ethernet card on and the Newton will start probing for Dock
servers.
Then Escale's AppleTalk icon should turn black. Once it's black, you
can choose your Computer from the chooser on the Newton and quickly
tap the Connect button (quickly as in: before the Ethernet card is
turned off by the Newton and the AppleTalk stack down by MacOS X).
If this doesn't work, please give us extended details. It's not easy
to figure it out with so little details.
