There is no "extra" memory per se. The upgrade requires unsoldering
two RAM chips whose many pins are very close together, and soldering
another two chips to the board instead with even more pins that are
just as close together, too. Not for the faint at heart, and even
not for the brave ones unless they have excellent soldering equipment
and enough experience in SMD soldering. If you haven't done this before,
you'd better forget it.
The question is if with the current 2100 mainboard prices it would
be worth taking this risk at all.
The ROM board, by the way, has nothing whatsoever to do with the
upgrade, other than the fact that you need to remove it to get at
the chips you need to replace.
