Newton can't make voice calls, modem's for data only. Someone had a
setup for this once upon a time, but IIRC it was some wacko card that
you can't find around.

Hold down the power button on the top left.

You need "the dongle". See:
http://jksalesinc.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=25_37_48 or your friendly
neighborhood eBay. That'll get you started with serial on the Newt.
You'll also need a package installer or NCU running on the Mac side.
The FAQ is loaded with details.

Yes. How about a kid-sized spatula? You know, when your kid is sleeping
and you don't want to lift them up and wake them, you just want to
transfer them quietly and keep them asleep. So you'd have them sleep on
the "body" of the kid-sized spatula, which of course would be nicely
cushioned. Then there's a big handle which makes it easy to pick them
up just as they are, then deposit them into their bed. Or maybe two
handles to make it easier to balance them.
