Hi,
my incredible resurrected 2100 has gone back to the grave ... well,
it's on life support.
After a couple of years in a drawer, because it wouldn't start, it just
started without fuss. But the power supply isn't working and so I've
been using rechargeable AAs from my Fuji camera. It has been draining
them really fast, so I've been playing around trying to work out why
... and unfortunately, whilst I was trying to get the Ethernet
connection working with Mac OS X, I let them drain completely and the
unit shut itself off.
Now, when I try to start it up with fully charged rechargeables or with
brand new AAs, I get the 'restart chime', the 'restart screen' for a
couple of seconds, then it switches itself off. After a couple of
seconds it does it again ... and again ... and again ... for a total of
12 times, then it gives up.
I have tried a Hard reset, which appeared to work, but when it came to
the 'restart' bit, it just went through he same 12 times procedure
again.
I've left the batteries out overnight, but ... same thing.
I have noticed that if I have any PC Cards in the slots, it won't start
at all! And if I put one in whilst it's going through the 12 times
routine .. it just stops. Could it be that it didn't like being down
mid-comms when it ran out of juice the first time?
Very frustrating after the joy of it starting up after all this time
... Does anyone have any suggestions how to get it going again, aside
from leaving it in a drawer for 2 years of course. <S> BTW ... whilst
it was working, I did a hard reset back to factory settings. I'm
running 2.1 with the last patch, so latest OS.
Maybe I'm going to be needing that Repair Clinic at the WWNC after all.
