First of all it only works for IMAP mail service, so if you are using
POP you are SOL.
If you do use IMAP, Mail V is really amazing! it allows for very
rapidly and reliably downloading large #s of messages (assuming you
have the bits), or browsing the server side mail store and looking only
the messages you care about.
It REALLY raises the bar for Newton email clients IMHO. I started out
using Aloha on my 120, and the used enroute and then simplemail, all
of which worked pretty well in there own rights, but there is NO
comparison to the speed and function of Mail V.
I can reliably read 3 imap accounts in one swoop, and it can display
images and play sounds too. It also has the email sketches as GIF
feature (ala simplemail)

PPS I am waiting to hear what Woo has to say about Mail V, he being the
definitive Newton Email junkie...
