I agree with Marty up to a point in that there are no "iBook
specific memory issues".

What is certainly true is that the combination of OS X and
certain hardware configurations is acutely sensitive to RAM
modules which are slightly out of spec.

It is probably also fair to say, that one reduces the risk of
getting a "slightly out of spec" RAM chip if one buys from Apple
since they probably throw out entire batches (and don't pay for
them) as soon as one duff module turns up. Plus, you will
certainly get such a chip replaced free in the unlikely event
that you get one from Apple. OTOH, there is no difference between
"Apple RAM" and that from other reputable suppliers. Apple buys
from (some of) the same sources as (most of) the third party
suppliers.
