That's correct. Threading in e-mail is typically handled by a special SMTP
header (called In-Reply-To) that contains the Message-ID to refer to.
Some clients may also try to match subjects together, but this usually doesn't
work too well. Considering e-mail was never designed to keep thread state,
that it works at all is a bonus :)
