In Spanish an inch is a "pulgada" which comes from the word "pulgar"
(thumb).
Latin America is mostly metric with the usual exceptions (rim size in bikes,
cars, etc.), pipes, etc.
The automotive industry is mixed worlwide with metric and imperial. Wheels
and tires being one of the most clear examples of these. Tire measures
combine the rim size in imperial and the width in metric (i.e. 205/55R15...
15" wheel, 205 mm width, 55% of width profile).
