Well, I'd consider myself an old newbie. I got mine about a year and a
half ago. The story behind it was that I saw someone using one in a
science fiction club I go to, and became curious. I'd remember seeing
them when they were new, but could never afford one.

Naturally, I mocked it because of its size (shame!), as my Visor Edge
could completely fit inside the screen area. I didn't think much of
the device until my cousin got one. Then, when I heard they were
relatively cheap, I decided to buy a 2100 on eBay!

I've actually only been subscribed to Newtontalk for a very short while
now. It took me a while to figure out how to control the massive
volume of mail that goes to the list, and to set up SMTP TLS AUTH on my
mail server so that I could have a throw-away email address to give to
the list (the last time I was subscribed, the address got harvested.)

In any case, the Newt has been invaluable for me in my class studies.
The only thing I miss is the note-burning rituals that students go
through at the end of the quarter :-/
