Older technology, no encryption, bulkier form factor means room for
using more smaller-capacity and less expensive chips (though tiny
compared to PCMCIA) all contribute to making CF cheaper than SD.
Largely, though, it's just that people are used to paying more for SD
and are willing to keep doing so.
