NO. The filing system that Paul's ATA driver places on the CF card is
not understood by ANYTHING other than a Newton (and Paul). You can't
put packages directly onto the card and expect them to work in the
newton. Likely, the laptop would ask to reformat the card once it's
been set up to work with the newton.
Paul has mentioned that he has been looking into this, and in some
FUTURE release of his ATA driver we may see it, but not yet.
