I'm about to go to bed so apologies for not doing the necessary
research, but there are open-source MOD players out there that support
other formats such as .xm, .s3m, .it, etc. Several are built around
the "libmikmod" library (one player for pre OS-X Macs is actually
called MikMod).
That might be worth checking into - maybe someone's already done the
work!
... and for a great OSX mod player I use CocoModX...
