My inlaws have several little night-lights around their house plugged
into electrical outlets -- and they are little thin green EL
night-lights. You can find them easily enough at home-stores, and their
fairly inexpensive. I remember the first time I saw them in the house
during an evening, I had a big grin on my face from seeing the familiar
green glow. I also was newton-geeky enough to get down on the floor and
put my ear to the nightlight to listen for a familiar hum (I was
disappointed to not hear any hum). Indeed, my wife wasn't impressed
when I told her the reason why I was taking such an interest in a cheap
night-light.

Given that they stay plugged in the outlets day and night, I've often
wondered why it is that they haven't lost their glow yet given that it
has been about two years since I first saw them in the house.
