The point about the repair is not just that you fit the washer but
that you service the hinge by cleaning it, correcting any excessive
wrapping of the spring around the axle and lubricate it. The washer
is a simple way of preventing the spring damaging the cable if it
ever comes off again.
Every eMate will have reached the stage by now that the hinges are
beginning to stiffen up due to glutinous grease so it's time to bite
the bullet and do the whole thing.
It may look intimidating but if you take it slowly, all you need is
to be gentle and considered and all will be well.
Joel.
