Hi,
I am a new Newton user. I got a messagepad 2000 a few weeks ago.
When I first started using it everything was great, it is in great
shape so I don't think it was used very much, but after I started
messing with trying to get wireless working I started experiencing a
problem. The card is a Linksys WPC11 and it's the version that is
reported to work. I got it working but it would freeze up sometimes
and sometimes the screen would just turn off while I was using it. I
could just switch it back on and it would be right where I left off.
It started doing it more often so I stopped using the card. Then it
started exhibiting a problem where the screen would dim to totally
off, then come back to normal, sometimes even darker than normal. It
kind of oscillates. I could hear a high pitched sound when it would
go totally dim. I thought maybe some software I installed was causing
problems so I totally reset it. It still did the same thing though.
I tried fresh batteries, same thing happened. I left it off and
without batteries for a day. It still did it. Then I left it on for
a while and tried to use it and it slowly got less frequent while
using it, fading in and out slowly every 3 seconds or so. Right now I
just turned it on and it did the fade on and off a couple times and
now it looks pretty steady on. Has anyone else experienced this kind
of problem? I don't know whether using the wireless card started the
problem or if something was just going bad with the electronics. I
have had it on for a few minutes now and it looked like it wasn't
doing it but now it just faded out and back really quick and is just
slowly fading out and back to normal. It's really weird. I am really
excited to have a newton, I just hope I can solve this problem.
Anybody have an idea?
