Which type of a computer are you trying to connect
to, and through what path are you trying to connect?
If you are trying to connect through the serial port
to the serial port of a state of the art Windows PC,
you will usually get error -1 after a short time.

This can be fixed by launching slowdown.exe (available
at UNNA) on the PC. You can start multiple instances
of slowdown if one is enough.

If your data isn't top secret, you could send the eMate my
way and I could extract your data to either a PC file,
a Mac file or a memory card. Shipping the eMate back
wouldn't exactly be a bargain since I'm in Germany.
If you let me keep the broken eMate, I'd trade it for
a 20MB card (or a CD) with the backup on it including
shipping. Might be the better option since eMates seem
to be a dime a dozen in the States these days.

Frank
