I'm guessing you're new to the Newton, welcome.

To select text, hold the pen still at one end of the selection. When you hear a squeak and see a large dot drag out the area you want to select. To copy, DOUBLE-TAP the selection and drag it where you want. It can take a bit of practice to get the timing right. You can also drag it to the edge of the screen where it will be kept to insert later.

All this, and much more, you can find in the 'Help' book installed in your Newton. Look for a folder named 'Help' in the Extras drawer, or tap the 'i' button in the lower-left corner of the 'Notes' application and choose 'Help'.
